For this last photo from the EAST 2018 series, we are back at the Austin Modern Rocks Gallery. The woman in black contrasting against the white gallery wall drew my attention.
What may look like an isolated portrait in a uncrowded gallery is an illusion. In reality, there were many people next to her, standing along the wall. I shot several photos but didn’t like the others in the image. I desired the simplicity of a single person, in frame. I waited for a gap to develop, grabbing this scene before the crowds resumed.
I didn’t know what to expect at the East Austin Studio Tour, but I had a fun time. As you can see from the series, I had an opportunity to shoot a lot, mostly candids and mostly of people. The black and white seemed to complement this documentary style.
