Entrance, Vox Media at SXSW – Austin, Texas

I mentioned a few times that I hung out mostly at the Vox Media venue during this year’s SXSW. It was a relaxing and fun way to be part of SouthBy without any of the craziness. This is the entrance, where they took over The Belmont, a decently nice bar on West 6th Street.

The entrance design resembled the one they had last year, but upon review, the mirror pattern is different. Goes to show how imperfect my memory is.

I think I like last year’s design better, or maybe it was executed better. The uneven and crooked squares messes with my sense of orderliness. I don’t think I have OCD, but I do appreciate precision.

Some have commented that they notice this tendency toward exactness in my photography. They probably have a point; I like my lines lined up. Is this my photographic style or a mental deficiency? Would I create more emotive images with a less exact framing? I know Daido Moriyama wouldn’t care.
