I made a number of satisfying street photographs at this year’s Rodeo Austin. I won’t bother showing all of them but I’ll end this year’s rodeo coverage with this photo. It’s my favorite of the lot.
Unlike most of my street photographs, where I quickly compose and capture a fleeting moment, I had time. I stood there in plain sight but probably invisible to the subjects; they seem preoccupied, in their own world. I made several frames, waiting for the distracting people to clear and getting a good expression and gesture. I may print this one and someday display it in my home gallery.
Were they just friends? Were they on a date? It looks like an innocent moment between teenagers sharing time and cotton candy at the county fair.
