It’s freeing both equipment wise and creatively to walk around with a single camera and a small prime lens. I made a variety of photographs during my quick photowalk downtown — from architecture to street photography. Today, I’m shifting from gritty black and whites to a color portrait.
I walked along 6th street earlier than usual when the bars were empty and the daylight hadn’t turned to night. These two bar patrons were getting a head start on the Saturday evening festivities. They were having a mini-party along with a few others.
I think most photographers are shy, preferring to be behind the camera. But, that isn’t true for everyone. Some people love being photographed. These women weren’t shy, hamming it up as I shot from the street.
I preferred a nicely posed picture instead and I asked permission before making this photograph. I briefly stepped into the bar and the large window created enough illumination for a well exposed available light portrait.
