As I was going through my library figuring out what to post next, I found this gem of a photograph. It’s something that I missed when I was creating my India street photography book. I shot so many photos, sometimes you miss one. I would’ve definitely included this one.
This is a good example of serendipity. I was shooting out the car window as we approach my first destination in Mysore. The city streets were noticeably more crowded than the country roads that I took to get there. I shot through the car window, and luckily I came up with this composition.
I was focusing on the woman with the umbrella but also happened to capture the two men who nicely frame the subject. The man on the left is a product of our times with a smartphone in hand. The man sitting down appears to be looking at the woman, which brings the focus back to my subject.
I’ll take these happy accidents when I can. It’s nearly impossible to plan these things when you are dealing with the mostly random action on the street.
