In addition to capturing buildings under construction, as part of my A Changing Austin project, I’m also documenting the current state of downtown. You never know when this view will change in the future.
The Austonian, a high-end condominium, is the second tallest building in Austin. I often show this tower on the blog since I like its slender profile, especially looking along the north-south axis.
The alleyway creates a leading line that points directly to the subject building. This adds the drama and items of interest in the foreground, mid-ground, and background. Little photographic tricks to make downtown buildings more compelling.

It sorta kinda looks like Philadelphia.
It does have a gritty older-looking view of Austin, which is actually hard to find. Unlike Philadelphia, which is dripping with history, most of Austin is very new.
It’s been a while since I’ve been in Philly. It would be fund to shoot the architecture there.
I haven’t photographed Philadelphia since February. I wondering if it’s safe to park and walk around.
Probably safer than Austin, at least from a COVID perspective.
We’ll see.
Good luck.
Congratulations, this is a compelling image!
Thank you, Andrea. I’m glad you like it.
