360 Condominiums – Austin, Texas

I made it to the back corner of the Federal Courthouse, on 5th and Nueces Streets. Looking south, I saw this dramatic angle on the 360 Condominiums. At one time, when completed in 2008, it was the tallest building in Austin and the tallest residential tower in Texas. It stands 581ft (117m) with 44 floors.

Since then, the Austonian and The Independent condos have surpassed its height. If you count the tall antenna on The Fairmont Hotel, the 360 Condos is now the 4th tallest in the city. Its relative standing will continue to diminish as there are taller buildings under construction.

When first built, the tower stood alone with empty land and low-slung structures surrounding it. As the building boom preceded, the density has dramatically increased. There are now two substantial skyscrapers behind the 360 Condos. The three buildings together form a desirable mix of alternating textures.
