I’ve been showing pictures of theaters on South Broadway for the last couple of days. Yesterday’s set of 7 images was missing a famous one, which I reserved for today. I originally planned to include the Tower with the rest until Apple made their big announcement about a month ago. The once derelict theater was transformed into the latest Apple Store.
You can see all the beautiful pictures of the fully restored and repurposed building here. Apparently, it took three years to restore the 1927 structure. So, my picture, which I took in December 2019, was during the height of the renovation.
Strategically located on the corner of South Broadway and 8th Street. The Tower might have the most unique facade of all the theaters. Given its corner location, I couldn’t conveniently stop and take a picture from the car. I parked and quickly snapped this picture, even though I was uncertain about the neighborhood.
The pandemic has certainly hit Los Angeles hard. Hopefully, this investment in the city’s history will further encourage re-development in downtown LA.
