Post Surfing – Honolulu, Hawaii

You see stuff on the streets in Hawaii that you don’t in most places — like people carrying surfboards. This is right next to Kuhio Beach. Which is one of the 8 sub-beaches that form Waikiki Beach.

Certainly, dramatic surfing photography can be exciting, but I’m don’t have the gear for it. Nor is this the right time and place. The big waves happen on the north shore. On the other side of the island, usually in the winter months. Having a super long lens helps too.

I’ll have to settle for surf street photography. Though I like the contrast of the surfer with the urban cityscape as a backdrop. The Hyatt Regency Waikiki sign definitively identifies the location.

Note: I just sent out my monthly newsletter a few minutes ago — the November edition. Signup for free to get longer form posts in a magazine-like format.
