I didn’t talk about it at all. But when I walked from the Aloha Tower to the Iolani Place, I passed through downtown Honolulu. Like many modern cities. There wasn’t much to talk about or to photographically document.
Most of the buildings were designed in the International-style which looks no different from New York or any modern city. However, there was one noteworthy difference — the palm trees.
These Hawaii trees added a much-need differentiation to the character of downtown, soaring proudly around the generic modernist skyscrapers. I’ve talked about the mix of modern buildings and palm trees before. This image uniquely identifies a tropical city differentiating it from most other cities.
