Congress Avenue Skyline – Austin, Texas

From 2nd Street, I walked north on Congress Avenue to 6th Street. I got my first look at the newly completed towers. That night in early 2022 was well past blue hour, though the dark environment was a good test of the Fujifilm GFX 50S II’s nighttime capabilities. I’ve also returned subsequently to make blue hour pictures, which I might showcase in the future.

You might recall the two center buildings. I’ve featured them during construction in 2021 and 2020. I made a healthy number of black and white downtown photos in 2020. The series called “A Changing Austin” was a personal project during the pandemic shutdown. All of those were on a tripod with the Fuji GFX 50S. Two years later, with the uncertainty of COVID lifted and sporting a new camera. I have newfound freedom to explore unencumbered.

The pointed top of the Frost Bank Tower reflects off the closest building. This iconic Austin tower was the tallest in 2003 when completed and the first high-rise built after the 9/11 attacks. Now it’s been overshadowed. Sinking to number 5 on the list of tallest buildings in Austin. With so many new high-rises under construction and being planned. The Frost Bank Tower will become a footnote among modern giants.
