A few weeks ago, I featured a rather quiet view of Rainey Street — especially considering that it was a Friday night at the start of SXSW. Unseasonably cold weather, below-normal winter lows was the cause.
Two days later, on a bright Sunday afternoon, everything returned to normal. A packed Rainey Street with diverted automobile traffic is the norm for the festivities.
With rare exceptions, it doesn’t stay cold in Austin for long. March in Austin is usually one of the most pleasant. SXSW attendees from around the world get a deceptive, best-case, view of Austin. I wonder how many know that once June rolls around, it’s steady high-90s to 100 degrees for the next few months.
