After years of shooting the fireworks from the same spot, albeit with different cameras, I vowed to change things this year. After last year’s image, there wasn’t much else I could do. Capturing a dozen more random explosions wasn’t going to cut it. I moved to a higher plain — literally, as you can see.
It’s been years since I climbed the rocky limestone above the 360 bridge, and it’s gotten a lot more popular. As evidenced by the overflowing highway shoulder with visitors to this unofficial park. You can see why — the view is spectacular. Challenging the popular myth of a dry cactus and tumble weed-filled Texas.
Below is Lake Austin, a dammed river that passes through downtown Austin. On the horizon to the left, you can glimpse the growing skyline. The green is the Austin Country Club, which puts on the 4th of July fireworks show. If framed precisely, I should be able to capture the fireworks burst and include the bridge.
I brought the Fujifilm GFX 50S II and a tripod for proper fireworks etiquette. I got there an hour and a half early to marvel at the view, find a place, and snap this picture.

I miss Austin. How have you been?
I’m doing great, Brett. Let me know when you’ll next be in Austin.
