I was surprised to see a roller skating rink at Rockefeller Center, located in the same place as the iconic ice skating rink. This attraction made sense since I was there in June. However, I was under the impression that they just set up tables in the off-season.
The roller skating rink is new, it turns out, and started in 2022, though they tried it back in 1940. The wheeled recreation is experiencing a retro-craze in New York City.
Over the years, this space has tested out tennis courts, flower shows, and concerts. The owners of Rockefeller Center are trying to increase its hip-ness and have contracted Los Angeles-based Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace for their skating expertise. The roller variety is smaller than the ice rink, which will reopen as the winter season approaches.
