Street Ballerina – Havana, Cuba

We shot next door to the place I featured yesterday. Still, I’m going to omit that coverage for now, since there were many other locations to discuss. We continued walking around the neighborhood when we discovered this grand entrance to an old apartment building. You can tell its scale by the massive front doors.

The place was enormous enough to give that stage feeling, and Kamy started doing her ballerina moves. I mentioned that Kamy is a professional ballerina and also models for extra income. My portraits are often tightly framed, but given the importance of the environment, I consciously shot wide to frame the entire body and the fantastic, worn architecture.

After shooting at the apartment’s entrance near the front doors, we ventured in deeper, revealing a set of stairs. Using them as a backdrop and the worn and colorful walls, we continued our shoot. As in the previous location, I shot a lot of frames, including Kamy on the stairs looking down. Then we walked to the second floor, where the architectural detailing continued. I shot many desirable pictures on the second floor, but will not display them in this series for brevity. Perhaps I’ll have to show them off later in the blog, or in my newsletter or my Substack.
