One of things I’m not used to, but was a perk in India, was to have a personal driver. Of course, at home, I drive myself to work. But, as corporate travelers to India, it’s not unusual to have people drive you around. Not only to and from the airport but to the hotels, restaurants and office. Given how crazy the local driving is, I’m glad too. I don’t have the skills or the guts to drive there.
I was shooting out the window, as I usually did, when I spotted this driver and his corporate visitor in the back seat. His driver and I made eye contact and, like many in India, he was very friendly.
During my week stay in India, I’ve gotten to know my driver, Ari. In fact, feeling a little awkward sitting in the back seat, I frequently sat up front. While not a limousine, the Toyota Innova Minivan is one of the nicer vehicles in India. I saw a few of the upscale hotels use that model as their shuttle.
