I mentioned yesterday that I’ve started a new project called A Changing Austin. I’m documenting much of the architectural changes happening downtown due to the rapid rise of office towers.
Today, I’m featuring the Indeed Tower, located at 200 West 6th Street. 36 stories and 554 feet tall, it is scheduled for completion in March 2021. It incorporates a historic 1914 post office as part of its ground-floor retail development. Co-Headquartered in Austin, and Stamford Connecticut, Indeed claims to be the #1 job search platform in the world.
I’m glad this tower is more than a rectangular box. There is a strong diagonal element that will add some character to often boring modern glass towers. I framed the new construction between existing buildings, doing my best to de-emphasize the lamppost by placing it in the void between the buildings.
Here’s another view, giving a ground floor relationship to the neighborhood. I’m using a 40mm equivalent lens on the Fuji GFX 50R. It gives a close to a natural human perspective, creating a minimally distorted view.
