Amid my A Changing Austin project to document the rapidly growing downtown, the pandemic hit. I got a chance to take pictures of unusual scenes like quiet Rainey Street bar portraits with a minimum of cars and people. Today’s is yet another quiet picture.
This parking lot, located in the Rainey Street District, is frequently packed. On this day in March, we have a lone Toyota Camry.
The tree balances out the frame as we have the rapidly sprouting high-rises in the background. The Quincy is under construction to the left, and behind the tree, the small house is The Alibi.
I’m sure, sometime in the not too distant future, this parking lot will be transformed into yet another tower. Thus, this image from 2020 will be forever and uniquely consigned to history.
