I noticed this tree on my previous Hawaii visit in 2018 and even blogged about it. I made those pictures with the compact Canon G7X Mark II. This time I busted out the 51MP Fujifilm GFX 50R, spending extra time making multiple images.
I was hoping to get the tree by itself, without the groundskeeper. However, he diligently continued to work, longer than I had the patience to wait. In the end, I incorporated him into the image — ultimately, it made for a better picture.
He mentioned this was a Monkey Pod tree during our quick conversation. It’s a spectacular tree. Unfortunately, the background buildings detract from making a truly spectacular photo. Though more than adequate for a blog post with a background story.
