The Hale Koa, also known as the Iolani Barracks, was completed in 1871. It originally housed the Royal Guard. Over the years, the structure has been used as a temporary shelter, Hawaiian National Guard Headquarters, and a storage facility.
Originally located on the Hawaii State Capital grounds, it was moved in 1965 to its present location on the Iolani Palace complex. Today the Hale Koa serves as the palace gift shop and ticket office.
This cute mini castle-like structure is constructed of 4,000 coral blocks. Like yesterday’s Iolani Palace photo, I perspective-corrected the image in post-production, creating a precise architectural capture of this historic structure.
