Approaching Times Square – New York, New York

Enter “Times Square” on Google Maps, and you get a marker in the middle of 7th Avenue and 45th Street. That’s the intersection you see in this photo. It’s also where Broadway and 7th Avenue cross.

After shooting the Majestic, I walked east on 44th Street and turned onto 7th Avenue. That’s where I shot this picture — just a taste of what’s coming for the next several days.

Formally known as Longacre Square, it was renamed Times Square in 1904 after the New York Times newspaper. The newspaper’s offices have since moved, and the original Times building is now One Times Square, the site of the New Year’s Eve ball dropping.
