I didn’t spend all my time at the Vox Media venue, though it was close. I did venture around making mental note of changes. Over the last several years, events have shifted from East 6th Street to Rainey Street. But with the open lots becoming less common because of Austin’s skyscraper boom, the SXSW Media events seem to be spreading further apart. Some have even made it to the east of Interstate 35, to the rapidly gentrifying and now arguably the trendiest part of Austin.
Viceland setup shop somewhere between East 6th Street and Rainey, on one of the rapidly disappearing open lots. They featured an enclosed roller skating rink with 70s and 80s music. I suppose it was some kind of retro-throwback.
I met Paola managing access to a painted school bus. And though this was a color photograph that was converted to black and white, most of the image is was monochrome anyway — all except for Paola’s skin and the green faux-grass.
