Continuing with the East Austin Studio Tour coverage, I have a rather unusual portrait. I saw this woman with wonderfully braided hair, and I asked if I can make a portrait. I thought a profile will nicely capture the braid patterns.
I directed her to the simple, unadorned hallway and used the Fujifilm XQ1 point and shoot with a flash. I knew this camera, as well as many other Fujis, have an extraordinary ambient light flash blending technology that would work well for the situation. The photo came out as I had hoped.
The photo isn’t perfect, of course. Ideally, I would’ve preferred no EXIT sign or no wood pillar in the corner. However, for a snapshot with a modest camera, I think it’s a rather interesting, and dare I say, artistic image.
