I rarely, if ever, shoot selfies. But, I do like taking pictures of people taking selfies. I couldn’t resist this one, shot at the end of the SXSW Olympus Drink and Click. Here’s Libby and Laura, two of the three models at the event, which was a big success with at least a couple of hundred partaking.
This photo is a sort of a preview of future portraits, coming soon. As is the custom at these Drink and Clicks, people often shoot portraits while imbibing. In addition to Laura and Libby, who I have featured before on this blog, I also shot Elena. Being an Olympus sponsored event, they had a large section of their latest cameras and assorted lenses to test. I’ll also give my impression of their latest, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, in an upcoming post.
Shooting formal portraits are fun, but better still, I often prefer the casual snaps like this one. The saturated red curtains and warm glow, entices, but I also like the surrounding clutter. You have the Olympus folks cleaning up in the background and the confusion of left over drinks on the table. There’s an authenticity that really captures a moment, in a simple snapshot like this.
